Tourism Statistics

 

 

Visitor Arrivals

The country welcomed 545,254 tourists for the month of August, up by 8.46% from the 502,739 arrivals in August 2016.

By sub-regional grouping, East Asia is the biggest source of arrivals with 331,358 arrivals for a market share of 60.77%. Korea, Japan and China which belong to this region accounted for 55.33% of the total volume.

North America provided the second biggest influx of tourists with 72,742 arrivals, constituting 13.34% of the total tourist traffic. This volume increased by 11.22% versus its arrivals of 65,402 for the same month last year. The ASEAN region comprised 7.31% share of the total equivalent to 39,852 arrivals.

 
 

Asia expanded its market share for the month of August, covering almost 70% of the total tourist traffic corresponding to 381,121 visitors. Arrivals from the Americas contributed 13.47% to total inbound volume or 73,430 visitors. On the other hand, 44,472 arrivals (8.16%) came from Europe while some 21,218 arrivals (3.89%) were from Australasia/Pacific.

 

 

Arrivals by Port of Entry

Air arrivals comprised 98.59% of the total inbound visitors, equivalent to 537,588 visitors.

A total of 332,147 tourists (60.92%) arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the primary port of entry of the country. For the major airports in Central Philippines, 121,170 visitors (22.22%) entered through Mactan-Cebu International Airport while 65,271 (11.97%) were received at Kalibo International Airport. Clark International Airport recorded 16,335 of the visitors while the rest of the airports accumulated 2,665 arrivals.

The Philippines continue to attract cruise ships with 3,775 tourists dropping by Boracay.

 

 

Visitor Markets, August 2017

Korea, as the country’s top source market, produced 141,869 arrivals for the month in review. Visitor volume from China surged to 95,687 arrivals from 61,766 arrivals in August 2016, posting a growth of 54.92%. On third spot is Japan with 64,114 arrivals. Although the USA market dropped to fourth spot by contributing 61,415 visitor arrivals, it showed an increase of 11.50% from its visitor count in August 2016 of 55,080.

Completing the top 10 markets are Taiwan 19,993 arrivals, Australia with 16,016 arrivals, United Kingdom with 14,105 arrivals, Singapore with 13,726 arrivals, Malaysia with 12,336 arrivals, and Canada with 11,057 arrivals.

Visitor count from Hongkong reached 9,026, followed by India with 8,081 arrivals. The top 20 markets this month includes the following: Saudi Arabia with 7,155 arrivals, Germany with 5,495 arrivals, Indonesia with 4,816 arrivals, Thailand with 4,008 arrivals, Spain with 3,967 arrivals, France with 3,775 arrivals, Vietnam with 2,776 arrivals, and Italy with 2,695 arrivals.

 

 

Visitor Arrivals

Philippine tourism sustained its arrival growth momentum by receiving a total of 4,470,880 visitors as of August 2017. This volume registered double-digit increase of 10.61% from the 4,042,049 count for the same period last year. The biggest volume was recorded in the month of January while the highest growth was registered in April.

Countries from Asia has already delivered 2,771,123 arrivals, posting a market share of 61.98%. Huge segment came from East Asia with 2,364,170 arrivals (52.88%) while the remaining portions came from the ASEAN with 319,584 arrivals (7.15%) and South Asia with 87,369 arrivals.

The Americas accumulated a total of 806,094 arrivals, a slice of 18.03% from the total visitor traffic. On the other hand, arrivals from Europe reached a total of 465,616 (10.41%) while some 214,778 arrivals (4.80%) were from Australasia/Pacific.

 

 

Visitor Markets

Korea, the biggest visitor-generating market for the country, has already reached million arrivals or 1,069,089 visitors, covering 23.91% of the total arrivals. The United States of America is the second top source market with an aggregate volume of 660,875 visitors, corresponding to 14.78% of the total. Visitor count from China reached 641,412 arrivals, a share of 14.35%. Japan ranked fourth with 405,571 arrivals, forming 9.07% of the total volume.

Taiwan finally took the fifth spot by providing 167,461 arrivals surpassing Australia with 166,993 arrivals. Completing the top 10 markets are Canada with 134,459 arrivals, United Kingdom with 125,008 arrivals, Singapore with 111,468 arrivals and Malaysia with 95,179 arrivals.

Among the top 10 markets, China posted the highest growth of 32.37%.

The top 11-14 markets include Hongkong with 74,489 arrivals, India with 72,381 arrivals, Germany with 59,500 arrivals, and France with 47,220 arrivals. Completing the top 20 sources are Saudi Arabia with 39,938 arrivals, Indonesia with 37,916 arrivals, Thailand with 31,673 arrivals, Viet Nam with 27,682 arrivals, Spain with 24,604 arrivals and Guam with 24,259 arrivals.
